University of Lleida meeting
A Moldavian delegation formed by representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Organization for the Development of the Small and Medium companies (ODIMM) were invited by the European Commission the last 23rd of March to visit the Cluster of Production Agricultural Means of Catalonia – FEMAC.
The delegation was made up by Ms. Iulia Labanji, General Director of the Organization for the small and medium companies of Moldavia, Ms. Olga Popa, Business Development Department Manager, and Ms. Tatiana Eremciuc, Infrastructure Department Manager.
The objective of the visit was to know the key to success for the development of a Cluster strategy in the agricultural sector, and about the different knowledge and support institutions of the Cluster, such as Technological parks, Universities or public administration.
The visit, which lasted three days, started in Barcelona with different meetings with ACCIO, which manages the Cluster Policy in Catalonia. Once in Lleida, the delegation met with the Cluster Manager of Femac, Enric Pedrós, with whom they analyzed the main strategic axes, the Action Plan as well as the challenges of the cluster members, at the same time they had an overview of the 20 years of history of the cluster.
Among the meetings held, it is worth mentioning the one with the Director of the Scientific Park of Lleida, Mr. Josep Clotet, about the key supporting role they play within the companies of the agricultural sector in the region of Lleida.
Throughout the visit to FRUITCENTRE, conducted by their Director Mr. Simon Alegre, the delegation could also learn about the news in fruit growing varieties as well as the advances in efficient systems of irrigation.
In the afternoon, Mr. Albert Sorribas, Innovation Vice rector of the University of Lleida, presented the university plans within the RIS3CAT, which is the research strategy and innovation for the smart specialization of Catalonia, approved by the government the 4th of February of 2014. The university in collaboration with FEMAC has also started the COTPA Community, which is specialized in technologies of the food production. IRTA and EURECAT are present as Research Centres in it as well as Catalan companies on the agro-food sector as RAIMAT, GRUP BORGES, and companies of the agro-food technologies such as BATSI or ARCUSIN, among others.
