The Research Group on Precision Agriculture, AgroITC Agrotechnology and was born in 2004 bringing together researchers from four institutions (University of Lleida, UdL, Polytechnic University of Catalonia UPC, Polytechnic University of Valencia-UPV and the Centre of Agricultural Mechanization of the DAAM of the Generalitat of Catalonia). However, researchers members have been working together over 15 years and constitute the reference group in Technology Applications of Plant Protection Products in Spain, with several patents and utility models in this area. The group also is a pioneer in the field of robotics and intelligent equipment for precision farming with one of the first patent in this area and equipment installed in Canada.
The research group consists of researchers from various fields, so that the knowledge and the application areas covered are complementary. Researchers at the University of Lleida, all belong to the Department of Agroforestry Engineering contribute to knowledge concerning the application of ICT to the design, development and application of new sensors in agriculture, machine control, data acquisition , data processing and signal, topography and geostatistics, electrical engineering, development of deviceson board for agricultural machinery, aid decision making, etc..
Members of the Polytechnic Universities of Catalonia and Valencia, provide expertise in the field of automation and mechanization of the vineyard and citrus respectively.
The remaining group (researchers from the Centre of Agricultural Mechanization of the DAAM) provide applied knowledge in various tree and bushy crops, the largest in area and production of Catalonia: fruit, especially in the field of machinery and spraying systems, as well as connections to agribusiness and machinery. This composition makes it easy to address the necessary interdisciplinary research and development in the recent field of precision agriculture and AgroITC (application of information and communication technologies in the agricultural sector).
